Important caveat

Read first

This is a summary, not legal advice.

Requirements change and depend on your product class, format, and province. This page paraphrases public Health Canada guidance to help you catch obvious gaps early; it does not replace the official packaging and labelling guide, the Cannabis Act and Regulations, provincial rules, or your compliance reviewer's sign-off.

The checklist.

Six groups an artwork reviewer works through on a pouch. Each notes how Prooflet helps.

1

Required symbols & warnings

  • Standardized cannabis symbol present and legible on products containing THC.
  • A current Health Canada health-warning message, shown in the required yellow warning area.
  • Warning and required text in both English and French.

Prooflet locks the symbol and renders the real bilingual warning copy as regulated components.

2

Mandatory product information

  • Brand name, common name, and class of cannabis.
  • THC and CBD content (and equivalents where required).
  • Net weight or volume, lot number, and relevant dates.
  • Licence holder name and contact information.

Prooflet checks that the required data fields are present before export.

3

Plain packaging & brand limits

  • One uniform background colour; no fluorescent or metallic effects.
  • Brand elements kept within the permitted count and size limits.
  • No graphics or images beyond what is permitted.

Prooflet constrains brand-element area and flags marks that exceed the limits.

4

Prohibited content

  • Nothing appealing to young people.
  • No false, misleading, or health/dietary benefit claims.
  • No people, characters, or animals; no association with alcohol, tobacco, or vaping.

Subjective items (youth appeal, lifestyle impression) are surfaced for human review, never auto-passed.

5

Packaging format & integrity

  • Child-resistant packaging as required for the product.
  • Tamper-evident closure.
  • Plain and, where required, opaque packaging.

Format and child-resistance requirements are a physical-packaging decision — verify with your converter.

6

Bilingual throughout

  • All required information in both English and French.
  • Both languages given equal prominence.
  • Warning message shown in both official languages.

Prooflet renders the bilingual warning and flags required text for bilingual review.
